노동자들은 축사로 끌려가는 양떼처럼 공장으로 몰려 들어가고, 자본가는 커다란 스크린을 통해 노동자들을 감시한다. 최소의 시간으로 최대의 생산을 얻기 위해서 노동자들은 숨쉴 틈도 없으며 화장실 가는 시간도 체크당한다. 화장실에서 담배라도 한 대 피우려 하면 한쪽 벽의 대형 스크린에서 자본가가 불호령을 내린다. 점심 시간도 아까워 자본가는 작업 중에 급식할 수 있는 자동급식기계를 설치한다. 자동화된 일터는 실직자를 대량 생산하고, 그들은 거리에서 시위를 벌인다. 굶주림 때문에 빵 하나를 훔치는 사람도 있고, 시위를 하다가 총에 맞아 죽는 이도 있다. 그러한 이들 때문에 거리에는 경찰관들이 가득하다.
