제73회 아카데미 영화제 후보작 발표

특이할 만한 것은 로맨틱 코미디물인 '초콜렛(chocolat)'이 최우수작품상을 포함 무려 4개 부분이나 노미네이트 되었다는 사실이다. 아무래도 미라맥스측의 강력한 지원이 있었지 않았냐는 추측이 난무하는 상황이고 보면 그리 별스러운 일은 아닐 듯 싶다.
다른 한편으론 드림웍스의 '글래디에이터'를 꼽지 않을 수 없겠다. 12개 부분에 걸쳐 수상후보에 오른 걸 보면 아카데미협회 측에서도 상당한 반응을 보였던 것이 분명하기 때문이다. 아마도 제작사측에서 희망하는 것은 전장의 선혈로 가득찬 러셀 크로우의 힘 있는 연기처럼 분명한 알짜배기 상들의 독식을 내심 바라는 것이 아닌가 싶다.
그밖에 놀라운 수상후보 화제 거리들은 '와호장룡'의 10개 부분 지명과 스티븐 소더버그의 '트래픽'과 '에린 브로코비치'의 동시 지명을 들 수 있겠다. 함께 나란히 5개 부분의 후보로 지명된 상태다. 그러나 하반기 헐리우드에 태풍의 눈으로 떠올랐던 '캐스트 어웨이'의 침몰은 전혀 예상치 못한 결과였다. 톰 행크스의 남우주연상을 끝까지 기원하는 방법 밖에는 별 홍보책이 없는 상태다.
시상식은 3월 25일 ABC-TV로 생중계될 예정이다.
