아시아영화의 세계화에 공헌해온 중국영화는 그 미학적인 성과로 인정받아왔습니다. 최근에는 소수의 작가감독들의 인지도에 치중하는 경향이 있지만 막대한 인구와 점증되는 시장개방으로 인한 표현의 자유 증대는 앞으로 중국의 발전을 가늠하게 하는 지표라 하겠습니다.
태국영화는 조용한 혁명을 이루고 있는 중입니다. <낭낙>의 논지 니미부트르 감독으로부터 시작된 이 움직임은 최근 <수리요타이>를 통해 절정에 이른 듯한 느낌입니다. 한국과 함께 가장 빠르게 발전하고 있는 태국영화계는 어쩌면 우리의 동반자가 될 수도 있겠습니다.
베트남에는 필름을 상영하는 극장이 없었다고 합니다. 대개 비디오 상영이었다고 하지요. 최근에서야 비로소 몇몇 필름 상영 극장들이 한국 사업가들에 의해 추진되고 있는 실정입니다. 최근 한류 바람으로 한국 연예인들의 인기가 높은 베트남에 대해 우리는 단순히 경제 논리가 아니라 문화교류로서 접근해야 할 것입니다. 이에 베트남의 영화에 대해 간략히 알아봅니다.
