Full Name: BazMark Luhrmann
Birth Place: Australia (suburb)
Age: I'm guessing around mid 30s
Spouse: Cathrine Martin (1996-)
Current Project: Is going to put all 3 of his films on the stage!

Baz was born in Australia and grew up Northern New South Wales. He probably had a normal childhood (he rarely talks about it). When he grew up he attended the National Institute of Dramatic Arts (NIDA) in Sydney. During his learning at NIDA, he was choosen (out of many appliers) to assist on Peter Brook's play " The Mahabarata". The following year he wrote and staged "Strictly Ballroom". After that he took Strictly Ballroom to the World Youth Theater Festival in (what was then, in 1985ish, Czechoslovakia). He won awards for Best Production and Director. The same year he directed a musical-thaeter piece called "Crocodile Creek" which was set and performed in the Australian outback for the New Moon Theater Company. When he graduated from NIDA, he formed an independant theater group call the Six Year Old Company, which he was the Artistic Director. With the company he revived "Strictly Ballroom" and had a highly successful season in Sydney at the Wharf Theater. Soon, he toured with "Strictly Ballroom" to the World Expo in Brisbane.

In between all the success of "Strictly Ballroom", Baz and company also did several productions of classic and orginal opera. Among them are "La Boheme" for the Australian Opera.(see "La Boheme") "La Boheme" was a instant success. It won the Mo Award for Operatic Performance of the Year (1990) and also aired on PBS.

Baz also did "Lake Lost" which earned him a Victorian Green Room Award for Best Director. Also as well as "The Pure Merino Fandango" and lead the production of Benjamin Britten's " A Midsummer Night's Dream" for the Australian Opera. " A Midsummer Night's Dream", which Baz took to the 1994 Edinburgh Festival, won the Critic's Prize. In 1989, Baz staged an event called "Dance Hall" for the Sydney Festival. He recrated a 1940s dance hall which invited people to dance the night ending World War two.

Something eles that's interesting about Baz is that he produced a signature issue of Australian Vogue, serving as guest editor with long time collaberator and wife, Catherine Martin and friend Bill Marron. Baz also orchestrated the campaign for the re-election of Labor Party's Paul Keating. Amazingly Baz also did the music video for John Paul Young's hit single "Love is in th Air" and also a video for Ignatius Jones' "Beat Me Daddy".
