The casting call for bespectacled wunderkind Harry Potter has been answered. 11-year old Daniel Radcliffe will play the title role in director Chris Columbus's Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, fresh from starring as young David in the BBC production of David Copperfield. Thespian newcomers Emma Watson and Rupert Grint are also set to play the roles of best friends Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley. The outrageously popular series of J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter books are being adapted to film, the first of which is set to release in late 2001.
Emma Watson came into our world in April 1990. She was named after a close family member and it earned her the title of 'Emma Watson II'. Throughout the next ten years, it became very clear to those around her that she would be a star. In her school, the lead roles in several plays were given to Emma, including Arthur: The Young Years (where she played Morgan La Fay) and The Happy Prince. Along with plays, Emma participated in many other school productions, including the Daisy Pratt Poetry Competition, in which she won first place for her year. Harry Potter and the Philosopher¡¯s Stone, is Emma¡¯s first debut into the world of professional acting. Competing against thousands of other girls for the role of Hermione Granger, Emma didn¡¯t expect to get the part. However, J. K. Rowling couldn¡¯t be happier about the selection. Off of the set, Emma is a normal 11-year-old girl. She enjoys playing hockey most of all, and she also likes debating and playing tug of war. |
